One for the Books: FCG Hosts Club

Paperback, Kindle, or audiobook? On April 5 Freedom Consulting Group hosted the Women In Intelligence Group’s (WIIG) book club, a chapter of Central Maryland’s Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA-CMD).

Discussing Shonda Rhimes’ Year of Yes: How to Dance it Out, Stand in the Sun, and Be Your Own Person, her name at the very least should sound familiar (avid viewers will pick up on those well-known phrases in the book’s title). She’s one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, and she basically owns Thursday evenings on ABC as the creator, head writer, and executive producer of shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.

WIIG was formed in 2007 to address the challenges and issues women faced in the government and industry communities. Gathering to discuss and share experiences, lessons learned, best practices, network, and to provide service and education to their community, the club itself meets quarterly to discuss books on business, career development, and technology. In addition to the book club, the organization also hosts an array of other events as well (small group mentoring sessions, networking events, speaker series, etc.).

If you missed the last session, but want to hop in next month, join the group for its quarterly meeting in June at Zavda Technologies. What’s on the reading list? Type Talk at Work (Revised): How the 16 Personality Types Determine Your Success on the Job.

Many thanks for all those who came out (and those who stuck around after work) for a wonderful evening of discussions on how to find more ways to say “yes” in your career and home life.
