Project Profile: Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

In FCG’s “Project Profile” series, we highlight some of the projects our top-notch talent works so hard to see succeed for a variety of different information technology fields.

The Project: Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

In a Nutshell: The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) supports the executive budget development that is sent to Congress, which sets limits on spending for each initiative our government undertakes in a given year of budget cycle. The FCG team primarily contributes expertise in the Pentaho suite of tools, which includes ETL with Pentaho data integrations, Reporting with Pentaho Report Designer, Dashboarding with Pentaho CDF, etc. People tend to wear many hats at OMB so the team often crosses into software or administration as well.

By the Numbers:

2: The number of years FCG has worked with OMB.

Infinity: The amount of coffee the team (aka Sean B. on his own) drinks each week.

From the Trenches: “A huge milestone for our team was when we first demoed our webapp to the FEMA project leads,” said Rich W., FCG’s PM for OMB. “The success of this demo brought back much needed confidence to what was perceived by all parties to be a doomed project.”

The Technology: FCG uses the Pentaho suite of tools. They are powerful, flexible, and much of it is open source. This allows custom plugins to be written to suit OMB’s unique needs.

The Successes: “The FEMA project, with hard work, turned out to be an incredible success,” said FCG Software Developer Hunter F. “It only utilized a fraction of the cost that went into their last effort at an online solution. They are in their second year and have increased funding!”
