Our team recently took on a new security manager this summer, Laura R., who has been an amazing addition to our corporate team. To indulge our curiosity, we sat down with Laura to get the inside scoop on what brought her to FCG and her interests.
What interested you in joining the team at Freedom?
I’ve been in the security field for 18 years. During that time, I’ve worked for large companies, small companies, and everywhere in between. Small companies are my absolute favorite to work for. I enjoy the family-like atmosphere, the summer parties, holiday parties, and all the other benefits that a lot of large companies aren’t doing anymore. It makes for a much happier work environment. It was Freedom’s size that first grabbed my interest and then the wonderful people sealed the deal.
Being security compliant with our programs is a priority, how does your role assist FCG with this need?
The role of an FSO/CSSO is an interesting one. The best way to describe it is that I am sort of like the middleman between FCG and our government customers. It’s my job to know what we can and cannot do, per government requirements, and effectively communicate that to FCG. There’s a lot of rules and we certainly don’t want to get into any trouble by being non-compliant. So, my role is to know the rules and keep both the company and our employees out of hot water. It’s a delicate balance between staying compliant and getting the mission accomplished.
What opportunity or challenge are you most excited for here at FCG?
I’m looking forward to expanding my security knowledge by working with customers I haven’t previously worked with before. Most of my career has centered around the Maryland customer with a few others sprinkled in. FCG will provide me the opportunity to learn new customers and I’m always looking for ways to branch out. The more knowledge and experience one has, the better!
We pride ourselves on our community of geekdom here at the company. What’s your favorite fandom and why?
I love classic movies and television. Especially, I Love Lucy and Lucille Ball. I am a collector of all things Lucy related. I’ve always been what one might consider an “old soul” and when I was younger, I would happily watch old TV with my dad. I Love Lucy was my favorite, of course. I have several hundred pieces to my collection and I’ve been to Lucy’s hometown for the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival (yup, it’s an actual thing). I have some pretty cool stuff in my collection. I guess you could say I’m obsessed, but I’m good with it!
